After Deepseek, a team in China has launched another artificial intelligence program called Manus, claiming to be the world's first truly autonomous intelligent agent capable of directly executing various tasks, including creating PowerPoint presentations, finding housing, analysing stocks, and more.

Manus is a consumer product developed by the Chinese startup Butterfly Effect. The early preview version of the product was released this week, attracting a large number of netizens applying for a trial, which temporarily crashed the official registration page. Manus is not just a conversational AI tool that can chat, but a true autonomous intelligent agent (AI Agent). The team claims that Manus can tackle a variety of complex and dynamic tasks. Unlike traditional AI assistants, Manus can not only provide suggestions or answers but also deliver complete results for tasks directly, according to the tech company.

According to a four-minute demonstration provided by the team, Manus independently completes the entire process from planning to execution. It can filter suitable candidates for a reinforcement learning algorithm engineer position from 15 resumes, manually unzip files, and browse each resume page by page to select the best candidate. And Manus outperforms OpenAI's cohort of large models in GAIA benchmark tests.

Additionally, the demonstration also shows that Manus can combine family income and children's schooling requirements to search for and read articles about the safest communities in New York, write Python programs to calculate budgets, and then filter suitable housing options on real estate websites based on the budget.

Xiao Hong (Also known as Red), the founder of Manus, is a post-90s generation individual born in 1992 who graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, making him younger than Liang Wenfeng, the founder of DeepSeek, who was born in 1985.

In 2022, riding the wave of artificial intelligence, Xiao Hong founded the company "Butterfly Effect" and launched the AI browser plugin Monica. The newly launched Manus continued the product concept of Monica. According to reports, the term Manus comes from Latin, symbolizing "hand." In Latin, "Mens et Manus" means "mind and hand," signifying the combination of thought and action.
