According to CCTV News, on March 7 local time, the South Korean Ministry of National Defense reported that a mishap during a joint military exercise between South Korea and the US resulted in the accidental bombing of a residential area. The incident left 29 people injured, including 15 civilians and 14 soldiers, with two civilians suffering severe injuries.
The South Korean Air Force disclosed that at approximately 10 a.m. on March 6, two KF-16 fighter jets participating in a joint live-fire drill "abnormally released" four MK-82 bombs each. The bombs missed their intended target at the training range and struck a nearby residential area, where all eight bombs detonated.
The Air Force stated that the incident was caused by a pilot's error in inputting the target coordinates.
