March 6 marked the first open day of different delegations at the 2025 National People's Congress (NPC) meetings, with representatives from various provinces seizing the opportunity to promote their regional cultural heritage to the media in creative ways.
The Guangdong delegation prepared an array of local delicacies, including signature desserts and refreshing Chenpi herbal tea known for its cooling properties. The Shanghai delegation gifted visitors with culturally inspired creative products unique to the city. Meanwhile, the Jiangxi delegation presented reporters with handcrafted Jingdezhen blue-and-white porcelain teacups, a symbol of the province's rich ceramic tradition.
The Tianjin delegation distributed canvas bags adorned with Yangliuqing New Year paintings, a local art form, while the Liaoning delegation offered reporters a variety of regionally inspired gifts, such as the "Auspicious Crane" tea cup from the Liaoning Provincial Museum, paper-cut nightlights featuring traditional "Ladies with Flowers" designs, and fridge magnets.
In addition to the unique gifts, the open day provided a glimpse into the cultural diversity and creativity of the provinces. At the Guangxi delegation, representatives from one of China's most ethnically diverse regions wore traditional minority attire, creating a vibrant and colorful scene. At the Guangdong delegation, barriers were completely removed, allowing media and representatives to interact freely. In another highlight, the Beijing delegation prepared a specially designed chair to accommodate the towering height of basketball legend Yao Ming, a deputy to the NPC.
