The Information Office of Beijing Municipality announced on Tuesday (March 4) that the world's first humanoid robot half marathon will be held on April 13 in Yizhuangzhen, Beijing, alongside the World Humanoid Robot Games. This not only showcases the continuous breakthroughs in the athletic abilities of humanoid robots but also highlights China's determination to accelerate the robotics industry.
"We plan to invite humanoid robots from global robotics companies, research institutions, robot clubs, and universities to participate," said Li Quan, deputy director of the Beijing Economic Technological Development Area. Currently, several teams from across the country are interested in competing and are undergoing intensive testing and training.
Li introduced that this year, humanoid robots will start simultaneously with the athletes at the starting line, running the same route together. Registration for the event opened on March 5. The starting point of the race is at the South Plaza of Nanhaizi Park Phase I, and the finish line is at the IT application innovation industrial park. The event will follow the principle of "synchronized registration for robots and athletes, same track, simultaneous start." Humanoid robots will start together with the athletes. To ensure safety, there will be isolation barriers made of railings or green belts throughout the course, allowing robots to run the same route as the athletes but on separate lanes.
