China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) announced on Wednesday (Feb. 26) that over 4,700 individuals have been indicted for medical insurance fraud in 2024.
This action follows a nationwide campaign launched last year by the SPP in collaboration with various authorities to address violations of laws and regulations concerning medical insurance funds. As part of this effort, the SPP also issued guidelines for handling criminal cases related to medical insurance fraud.
In addition to medical fraud cases, the SPP reported that procuratorial organs across the country prosecuted 255,000 individuals for dangerous driving in the first 11 months of 2024, marking a 16.8 percent decrease from the previous year. Furthermore, 48,000 individuals were prosecuted for drug-related offenses during the same period.
The SPP emphasized its commitment in 2024 to rigorously punish crimes that result in multiple fatalities, particularly major heinous crimes, extreme crimes, and those endangering public safety, as part of its broader strategy to uphold societal security.
