
Financial Secretary Paul Chan outlines the 2025-2026 Budget today (Feb. 26) and says the government will explore regulating basketball betting activities.
According to Chan, in recent years, quite some members of the public have expressed concerns about the problem of illegal basketball betting in Hong Kong. According to the latest assessment of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), the turnover of illegal basketball betting reached HK$70 billion to HK$90 billion last year.
"To combat illegal betting activities in an effective manner, the government will explore regulating basketball betting activities and invite HKJC to submit a proposal," he said.
