The Airport Authority announced today (Feb. 24) that Hong Kong International Airport welcomed 5.28 million passengers in January, a 27.8% year-on-year increase, with daily averages exceeding 170,000. Aircraft movements reached 33,660, up 17%, marking the highest since the pandemic. On Jan. 25, passenger numbers surpassed 193,000, setting a new post-pandemic record.

All traveler categories, including Hong Kong residents and visitors, showed double-digit growth, especially from Southeast Asia, the mainland, and Japan. Cargo volume also rose to 14,000 tonnes, a 4.1% increase, with transit cargo up 12.2%.

Chapman Fong, Deputy Director of Corporate Development, stated that the Airport Authority is expanding city lounges in the Greater Bay Area to 30 by March, enhancing connections between the region and international destinations, and thereby solidifying Hong Kong's status as an aviation hub.
