Chinese tech firm Huawei on Tuesday (Feb. 18) held a global launch event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where it unveiled the Mate XT, the world's first smartphone with a triple-folding screen, attracting attention in the market. According to the Associated Press, Huawei's return to international markets marks a symbolic victory for the company in the face of the U.S.'s heavy technology blockade.
The Mate XT, which was unveiled in China five months ago, went on sale worldwide on Tuesday and will go on sale on March 15 of next month, starting with Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Cambodia, where it will be priced at €3,499 (HK$28,000).
This Huawei Tri-Fold overseas version doesn't come with the HongmengOS, but with EMUI 14.2, which is based on the Android Open Source Project.
Huawei is also showcasing the MatePad Pro tablet at the event, as well as its first open headset, the Free Arc, which has increased its share of the smartphone market in China from 12 percent in 2023 to 17 percent in 2024, according to IDC.
