The Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO) of the State Council, Xia Baolong, visited the Hong Kong Park (the Park) of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone and the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Co-operation Zone on Feb. 9. During his inspection, Xia hosted a discussion session in Qianhai and was briefed by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government on its work plans on the economy and financial services.

At the press conference today (Feb. 18), the Chief Executive, John Lee, said that he was grateful to Xia Baolong for pointing out the direction of Hong Kong's development and giving his views, which have made it clearer the direction in which Hong Kong should move forward.
Lee said he was grateful to Xia Baolong for his visit to the hetao. On his second day back from Harbin, he chaired a meeting to discuss the views and guidance given by Xia Baolong. He pointed out that the entire SAR government needs to further reform and break the ice in terms of thinking, bearing in mind the urgency of "no time to lose". The current administration has implemented various reform measures, which have improved the government's culture and speed of action.
Lee went on to say that the secretaries of departments and directors of bureaus should have a sense of reform, have the courage to break new ground, act with speed and remember the urgency of the situation. If anything is not done satisfactorily, he will propose a guiding direction and ask for improvement, emphasizing that he has confidence in the governing team.
In the past two and a half years, the government has introduced a number of new reform measures, but social problems exist every day and new problems will arise, the government team will continue to work hard, he said.
