According to the data from Beacon, the total box office (including screenings and pre-sales) of "Nezha 2" has exceeded RMB 11.5 billion as of this morning (Feb. 16), making it the first Asian film to enter the top 11 of the global box office charts, and only one step away from the top 10 of the global box office history.
Previously, "Nezha 2" has set a number of records, including entering the Top 2 animated films at the global box office, becoming the first film in Chinese cinema history to gross over RMB 10 billion in Asia, and setting a record for the highest box office in a single global film market.
"Nezha 2" was officially released in North America on February 14 (local time). It was reported that both the pre-sale box office and the number of movie slots set new records for Chinese-language films in the region in the past 20 years. Many overseas viewers took to social media platforms to marvel at how hard it was to get a ticket for the film.
Oscar jury member Sheila Sofian, Director of the Animation Research and Practice Program at the University of Southern California, was even more impressed with the film, saying that "Nezha 2" will be very competitive among the Oscar entries, and that she looks forward to seeing it compete for the 2025 Oscars.
