The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced today (Feb. 14) that the preliminary number of visitors to HK in January reached 4.74 million, marking a 24% year-on-year increase. The surge, attributed to the positive atmosphere brought by the Lunar New Year holidays and large-scale festive events, represents the highest single-month visitor figure since the pandemic began.

Visitors from the mainland accounted for 3.73 million arrivals, a 25% increase compared to the same period last year, setting a new post-pandemic monthly record.

The data also revealed that non-mainland visitors totaled 1.02 million in January, maintaining a streak of over 1 million monthly visitors for the third consecutive month. Short-haul and long-haul markets both saw visitor numbers rise by over 20% year-on-year. Several key source markets, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Australia, recorded growth of approximately 30% or more compared to January 2024.
