Hong Kong government is set to finalize its legislative proposal for regulating ride-hailing services within this year. A document circulated by the Hong Kong Tele-call Taxi Association summarizes discussions from a recent taxi industry meeting held on Tuesday (Feb. 11).

The meeting included suggestions to write to the Chief Executive and the Transport Department, requesting an immediate halt to the operation of unlicensed ride-hailing platforms. The document warns that if the authorities do not respond positively by next Wednesday (Feb. 19), the industry will suspend passenger services for no less than five days starting March 5.

The letter emphasizes that the industry is at a critical juncture, urging unity for a "last stand" to reclaim legitimate rights within the taxi sector. Wong Yue-ting, chairperson of the Hong Kong Tele-call Taxi Association, confirmed to local media that the document was issued by him but noted it was an internal memo and declined to comment further.

In response, the Transport Department stated that the Working Group for Enhancing Personalised Point-to-Point Transport Services has arranged a meeting with the taxi industry and ride-hailing platforms on Feb. 19. The government has urged the taxi sector to remain calm and rational, prioritizing the interests of citizens.
