After taking office, U.S. President Donald Trump introduced a series of policies, with his latest move targeting the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Trump has frozen billions of dollars in international aid, including $260 million originally designated to support "independent media and the free flow of information."
This decision has significantly impacted 707 non-state media organizations, 6,200 journalists, and numerous NGOs focused on press freedom, affecting operations in over 30 countries worldwide.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) also stated that it would be affected. The BBC revealed that during the 2023-2024 fiscal year, approximately 8% of its total revenue relied on funding from the United States.
Observers note that Trump's decision could have far-reaching consequences for global journalism, particularly for media organizations that rely on international funding to sustain their operations.
