In honor of the 30th anniversary of Eileen Chang's passing, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) has received a significant donation from her estate administrators, Roland Soong and his sister Elaine Soong. The collection includes manuscripts, personal items, and letters exchanged with friends, notably the Soong couple.
A donation ceremony was held on Feb. 12, attended by university officials including Council Chairman Wong Tin-cheung and President Lam Kwan-sing. The archive contains thousands of items, including Chang's manuscripts and correspondence with literary figures.
Roland Soong expressed his hope that this donation would promote the preservation and study of modern literature, enhancing appreciation for Chang's works. President Lam emphasized the importance of this collection for research and cultural heritage.
The university plans to create a digital archive and special collections dedicated to Eileen Chang and the Soong couple, along with public exhibitions to showcase their literary contributions.
