Japan has become a popular tourist destination in recent years, with a huge increase in visitors, but the hotel industry has recently discovered that the problem of bed bugs is becoming more and more serious.

According to a report in Japan's Sankei Shimbun, the number of bed bugs in hotel rooms has increased dramatically as the number of tourists visiting Japan has increased. DUSKIN, a cleaning company, said that it has received a significant increase in demand for pest repellent services, with demand in 2023 1.6 times that of 2020, with the hotel industry accounting for the largest number of cases.

According to DUSKIN, bed bugs seem to have developed resistance to commercially available pyrethroid insecticides, and the results of their use are unsatisfactory, so they have to seek professional cleaners to get rid of the bugs. As a result, hotels have increased the cost of pest control, which is one of the factors contributing to the increase in accommodation costs, according to the report.
