The Hong Kong String Orchestra has successfully concluded its 2025 Australia tour, performing five concerts in Adelaide, Sydney, Canberra, and Melbourne starting Jan. 31.
Led by renowned violinist Jue Yao, the orchestra presented a "Spring Festival Concert" themed "East Meets West," showcasing traditional Chinese music. On Feb. 2, they performed at the Sydney Opera House, where all tickets sold out, marking the first full-house performance by a Hong Kong string orchestra at this iconic venue.
During the concert, Jue Yao engaged the audience by teaching them to chant a folk song, creating a lively atmosphere. Many attendees expressed their appreciation for the blend of Chinese culture and Western art.
Chinese Ambassador to Australia, Xiao Qian, highlighted the significance of the tour in promoting cultural exchange, while Consul General Wang Yu noted its role in enhancing friendship between the two regions. The tour included classical pieces and works by Hong Kong composer Koo Kar-fai, fostering interest in Chinese culture among Australian audiences.
