
On the third day of the Harbin Asian Winter Games, Team China won six gold medals on Monday (Feb. 10). Three of the top honors were won in the speed skating competition.
Gao Tingyu finished first in the men's 500 meters sprint, with the Asian record holder completing the course in 34.95 seconds.
Sidney Chu of Team Hong Kong, China finished with a time of 39.42 seconds, good for 18th as he wrapped up his maiden Asian Winter Games journey.
Elsewhere, Team China's athletes filled all the spots on the podium in the women's 3,000 meters, with Yang Binyu winning gold, Han Mei silver and Tai Zhien taking home bronze.
The national men's sprint team also struck gold by beating South Korea and Japan.
In freestyle skiing, the gold medal also belonged to Team China as the mixed aerials team outperformed their Kazakh and Japanese opponents.
Xiong Shirui and Yang Wenlong topped the snowboard podium in the women's and men's big air events respectively.
China has a haul of 54 medals, including 21 golds so far. Second-placed South Korea has 11 gold medals and Japan four.
In curling, the SAR's men's team defeated Japan 7-3 in group play.
