During the Lunar New Year holidays, many travelers have visited Hong Kong. Dane Cheng, the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, reported on Feb. 3 that from Jan. 28 to Feb. 2, the city welcomed 1.07 million visitors, a 3% increase. Non-mainland visitors rose by 17% compared to last year.
In January 2025, Hong Kong saw 4.7 million visitors, reflecting a 24% year-on-year growth. Cheng noted that while Southeast Asian visitors, like those from the Philippines, increased significantly, numbers from Japan remain weak due to varying economic conditions. He expects rising air transport capacity to lead to lower ticket prices and more visitors.
Cheng highlighted that 50% of visitors stayed overnight, with an emphasis on dining and experiences over shopping. He also mentioned new attractions, like the Kai Tak Sports Park, enhancing Hong Kong's appeal. Addressing concerns about some events, he emphasized the importance of long-term reputation building.
