Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade expected to attract 100,000 spectators
According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, they will host the Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade in Tsim Sha Tsui on the evening of the first day of the Lunar New Year (Jan. 29). It is expected that around 100,000 people will come to watch, with approximately half of them being tourists.
This year, there will be 9 floats and 46 international performance teams participating, bringing together teams around the world to create an atmosphere of an international carnival for the Chinese New Year. The floats and performance teams will depart from the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui, proceed along Canton Road, Haiphong Road, and Nathan Road, and finally arrive at the exterior of the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel. The first float is expected to reach Canton Road at 8:30 PM, Nathan Road at 9 PM, and the last float is expected to reach the endpoint at 10:30 PM.
The viewing stands are divided into 5 areas, including Area A seats (main stage) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, Area B seats (main stage with partially obstructed views), Area C seats (near the viewing platform), Area D seats on Canton Road (outside The Sun Arcade), and Area E seats on Nathan Road (intersection in the middle). The first three areas will open to ticket holders at 6:45 PM, while the last two areas will open at 5:45 PM. Due to the event's popularity, all tickets for the viewing stands have been sold out. However, citizens who were unable to purchase tickets can still enjoy the parade for free along the sides of the parade route.
After the Chinese New Year Night Parade, the floats will be displayed at the Lam Tsuen Wishing Square from Jan. 30 to Feb. 13. Additionally, on January 30 and 31, several mainland and international performance teams will visitLam Tsuen for performances, allowing citizens and tourists to come and enjoy the shows and create wonderful memories.
