The 15th National Games, organized by the General Administration of Sport of China, will take place from Nov. 9 to 21 this year across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau.
In a recent interview with Hong Kong Wen Wei Po, the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law, described the event as the highlight of the year, emphasizing Hong Kong's commitment to hosting it successfully. He believes the Games will not only provide Hong Kong athletes the opportunity to compete with their peers from across the nation but also enhance the sense of national identity among the local population.
The Games will feature both competitive and mass participation events, with 34 and 23 disciplines respectively. Hong Kong will host eight competitive events, including basketball (U22 men's), track cycling, fencing, golf, handball (men's), rugby sevens, triathlon, and beach volleyball, along with a mass participation event in bowling.
Yeung acknowledged the strength of mainland athletes but expressed optimism that Hong Kong competitors could secure medals in the relevant events. He noted the joy of winning at home and how residents can enhance their national identity by cheering for Hong Kong's athletes, recognizing Hong Kong as part of the nation.

Additionally, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th Special Olympics will be held from Dec. 8 to 15 this year, lasting for eight days. Hong Kong will host five events, including boccia, wheelchair fencing, table tennis (TT11 class), wheelchair dance, and table tennis for the Special Olympics. Law expressed excitement for both the National Games and the Paralympics, calling them the major events of the year.
