On Monday (Jan. 20), U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order delaying the TikTok ban by 75 days "to permit my Administration an opportunity to determine the appropriate course of action with respect to TikTok."
When asked about the purpose of the order, Trump stated that he was given the right to sell it or ban it. He said he will make that decision.
TikTok ceased services for U.S. users around 7:30 pm on Aug. 18 (US time). Several apps under TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, also stopped operations in the U.S. at the same time. American companies, including Apple, Google, and Oracle, which support the TikTok app's functionality, halted their services as well.
Earlier on Jan. 19, Trump took to social media to urge companies not to let TikTok remain inactive. He announced that he would issue an executive order on Jan. 20 to postpone the enforcement of the TikTok ban law, stating that any company assisting in maintaining TikTok's operations would not face legal repercussions.
