According to CCTV news, a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian armed group Hamas has come into effect.
On the afternoon of Jan. 19, Hamas released the first three Israeli female hostages held in Gaza, handing them over to the Red Cross. Local Palestinian media reported that the three individuals are in good condition.
Earlier on Jan. 19, an Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Daniel Hagari announced at a press conference that Israeli military operations would continue because they had not received a list of the three individuals scheduled for release that day from Hamas. As a result, the ceasefire agreement, originally set to take effect at 8:30 am local time, was postponed.
Subsequently, a spokesperson for Hamas's military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, released the list of the three hostages to be freed via social media. Shortly after 11 am, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office confirmed receipt of the list. It informed the families of the released individuals, announcing that the first phase of the ceasefire agreement would take effect at 11:15 am. Just after this time, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson stated that the ceasefire agreement in Gaza had begun.
