HK reports 9,190 bankruptcy applications last year, highest in nine years
According to data from the Official Receiver's Office, Hong Kong recorded a total of 9,190 bankruptcy petitions in 2024, marking the highest figure since 2015 and an annual increase of approximately 17%.
In December alone, there were 781 petitions, representing a month-on-month decline of over 6%, but a year-on-year increase of nearly 16%.
Additionally, there were 740 compulsory winding-up petitions filed last year, a rise of over 30%, making it the highest number since 2009. In December, there were 57 such petitions, showing a month-on-month decrease of nearly 21%, but a year-on-year increase of 39%.
