OMG | Millions of TikTok users flock to Xiaohongshu as 'refugees'
Recently, Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu (RedNote) has seen a sudden influx of posts and videos from US-based users, many of whom are calling themselves "TikTok refugees."
On Jan. 10 this year, the US Supreme Court held an oral argument on the "sell or ban" case concerning TikTok. Despite TikTok's strong advocacy efforts, a majority of justices still appeared inclined to support the ban, putting TikTok at risk of being shut down nationwide on Jan. 19.
On Jan. 13, Xiaohongshu soared to the top of the US Apple App Store's free download chart.
The flood of "TikTok refugees" has also sparked the creation of a new "English Corner" feature on Xiaohongshu, where users connect for language exchange or even post English homework questions for help from these newcomers.
