Vegetation fire at Sze Shan in Lantau Island put under control
A vegetation fire broke out at Sze Shan, Lantau Island at 4.51 pm yesterday (Jan. 12). The fire was put under control at 12.30 pm today (Jan. 13).
Firemen have used fire beaters to fight the blaze. The Government Flying Services has also deployed helicopters for water bombing at the site.
According to the Fire Services Department (FSD), dozens of hill fires in various districts were reported over the past weekend.
The FSD reminds the public to remain calm in the event of a vegetation fire:
◆ Observe the direction of spread of the fire and avoid fleeing in the same direction.
◆ Choose a place where vegetation is sparse to avoid the fire.
◆ Memorize the location of the fire and call the police for help if it is safe to do so.
◆ Even if the fire is far ahead, turn back and leave immediately.
