A fire broke out this morning (Jan. 9) at 11:34 am in an electrical meter room located in Wah Oi House, Wah Kwai Estate, in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island. Eyewitnesses reported hearing explosion sounds during the incident.

Emergency services responded promptly, with firefighters deploying a hose and a smoke helmet team to combat the flames. The fire was successfully extinguished by 11:54 am. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and evacuation was deemed unnecessary. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

On-site reports indicated that the building's elevator was temporarily out of service due to the fire. However, it was later restored using backup power. A daytime elderly care center within Wah Oi House was affected by a power outage, leading to dim lighting in the facility. Personnel from Hong Kong Electric have arrived to assess and investigate the situation further.

This incident highlights the importance of fire safety measures in residential buildings, and authorities continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
