
According to CCTV News, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro stated on Jan. 8 that among the mercenaries arrested in the country on Jan. 7, two are senior officials from the United States.
Maduro claimed that one of the individuals was a senior official from the FBI, while the other was a senior military official. He also mentioned that Venezuela has recently arrested 125 mercenaries from 25 different countries, alleging that they are involved in aggression against Venezuela, funded by the Biden administration.
Earlier, on Jan. 3, the Venezuelan military announced the deployment of 1,200 troops nationwide to ensure stability during the presidential inauguration.
Venezuela is set to hold presidential elections on July 28, 2024. The National Electoral Council announced early the following day that Maduro had been re-elected. The Supreme Court confirmed his victory the next month. According to the Venezuelan constitution, Maduro is scheduled to take the oath of office on Jan. 10, beginning his third presidential term.
