Observatory forecasts 'Jupiter Meets the Moon' on Saturday
For the second week in a row, Hong Kong has been enjoying a special astronomical phenomenon. The Hong Kong Observatory has uploaded a photo on social media platforms under the theme of "Hop on Venus", showing a crescent moon hanging over the Ting Kau Bridge, with a little bit of bright starlight in the upper right corner, which resembles a winking and smiling face.
The Observatory said that many people saw this beautiful scene last Friday (Jan. 3), and that the star near the crescent moon was Venus, the brightest star in the night sky apart from the moon.
The Observatory continued, "When the planets and the moon travel to the same equinox or ecliptic coordinate system of the Earth's center, they will appear close to each other when viewed from the Earth, resulting in the phenomenon of 'planetary conjunction of the moon', which occurs a couple of times a month, and you will have a chance to see it on a clear day.
The Observatory has announced that there will be a "Jupiter Meets the Moon" this Saturday (Jan. 11).
