Xizang earthquake: Zheng Qinwen donates RMB 1 mn, celebrities join relief efforts
At 9:05 a.m. on Jan. 7, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Dingri County, Xizang, China. As of 7:00 p.m. the same day, the disaster had claimed 126 lives and injured 188 people.
In response to the tragedy, numerous celebrities have stepped forward to support relief efforts. China's tennis star Zheng Qinwen donated RMB 1 million through the China Foundation for Rural Development to aid earthquake rescue operations in Shigatse, according to the foundation's official Weibo account.
The Han Hong Love Charity Foundation also announced on Weibo that, as of 1:00 p.m. on Jan. 8, donations totaling RMB 11.18 million had been received from 58 athletes and celebrities. The donor list includes table tennis champion Wang Chuqin, and prominent figures such as Dilraba Dilmurat, Jackson Yee, Zhang Yuqi, Richie Jen, and Michael Wong.
Apart from monetary contributions, the Huang Xiaoming Tomorrow Foundation revealed via social media that donations from 39 artists had been used to send 20,000 packs of instant noodles. The supplies were loaded in Lhasa at 5:00 a.m. on Jan. 8. Donors to this initiative include Huang Xiaoming, Lin Chi-ling, Zhang Tian'ai, Huang Bo, and Li Xueqin.
