China responds to US decision to halt Nippon Steel's bid for US Steel
During the January 6th regular press conference held by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a reporter asked about U.S. President Joe Biden's recent decision to block Nippon Steel's acquisition of U.S. Steel Corporation, which has sparked criticism in Japan and the U.S., calling the move unfair. Reports also claim that the Chinese government and the steel industry are pleased with this decision. The reporter inquired about China's stance on the matter.
In response, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated:
"We have noted relevant reports. Regarding specific business cooperation between the U.S. and Japan, China does not comment. However, China has always upheld the principle that all countries should adhere to the principles of fair competition and WTO rules. We believe all nations should contribute positively to the orderly functioning of global markets and the healthy development of international trade."
