Cold to drop again after Minor Cold, with a low of 12 degrees next week
Today (Jan. 5) is Minor Cold, the twenty-third of the 24 solar terms, marking the approach of the coldest period of the year. The Hong Kong Observatory pointed out in a post on social media platforms that the weather in Hong Kong will be cooler and drier in the next couple of days due to the complementary effect of the northeast monsoon, reminding the public to pay attention to keeping warm.
The Observatory said the dry Northeast monsoon is bringing generally sunny weather to Guangdong, with relative humidity generally dropping to 50% or below by midday today. An easterly flow will also gradually affect the Guangdong coast tomorrow, followed by two to three days of strong winds and slightly increasing cloudiness in the region.
The Observatory also said that another winter monsoon will reach the coast of southern China on Thursday (Jan. 9), when temperatures will start to drop, and on Friday and Saturday mornings (Jan. 10 to Jan. 11), temperatures will drop to around 12 degrees.
