Photos | High-speed rail adds 16 new stations, including Xi'an
The high-speed rail (Hong Kong section) commenced operation of the long-haul line between Hong Kong's West Kowloon Station and Xi'an North Railway Station from today (Jan. 5).
The MTR Corporation Limited celebrated the opening of the new line in the morning and welcomed the first batch of passengers to Xi'an North Railway Station.
A spokesman for the MTR Corporation Limited said that this is the first time that there is a direct service from Hong Kong to and from Shaanxi Province, which has more than doubled the number of stations on the XRL (Hong Kong section) from 44 at the beginning of the operation to 93. 104 pairs of XRL trains now depart daily, facilitating the travel of tourists and business people to and from Hong Kong.
The XRL has added 16 new stations, including Xi'an North, Meizhou West and Xintang stations. Together with the service upgrades of the existing routes, the number of stations connecting to the Mainland has increased to 93. The XRL to Xi'an North Railway Station departs at 09:07 a.m. and arrives at 8:01 p.m. The return trip departs at 11:04 a.m. and arrives at Hong Kong at 9:09 p.m.
