Opening hours of control points could be extended if needed: IMMD
Last night (Dec. 31) was New Year's Eve, with various countdown celebrations held across the city, attracting both residents and tourists.
The Director of Immigration, Benson Kwok, attended the New Year's Day winter swimming event today (Jan. 1) and reported that approximately 25,000 people crossed the land boundary control points from midnight until 6:30 am, with overall port operations and traffic remaining smooth and orderly. From Dec. 21 last year to New Year's Eve, the ports recorded a total of 11.46 million entries and exits, which met expectations.
Kwok noted that the Lok Ma Chau and Shenzhen Bay ports operated with special overtime arrangements, with 300 staff members deployed to assist. He expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their hard work and to the relevant mainland authorities for their support, which enabled efficient processing of boundary crossings.
In response to dissatisfaction from mainland travelers regarding the Lok Ma Chau port's service hours, which only extended to 2 am, Kwok stated that the department would review the demand and consider extending the opening hours in the future if necessary.
