Around 68,000 tickets from Jeju Air canceled after plane crash
According to CCTV News, on Dec. 30, local time, Jeju Air revealed that about 68,000 tickets were canceled after the crash of Flight 7C2216. In addition, a large number of tourists in Korea canceled their travel plans.
It was reported that a travel agency received more than 40 applications for canceling travel bookings on Dec. 29, and as of 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 30, the number of users who had canceled travel products reached 500. Korean travel agencies have also suspended online advertising and other promotional activities.
In addition, many consumers canceled their air ticket reservations, especially for low-cost airlines such as Jeju Air.
The South Korean travel industry is generally of the opinion that the Jeju Air plane crash will have a huge impact on the tourism industry, which has already been seriously affected by the political instability and the drastic depreciation of the Korean Won in early December after President Yoon Suk-yeol declared an emergency martial law, which led to the shrinking of the consumer mentality, and the Jeju Air plane crash has brought a "fatal blow" to South Korean travel industry.
According to the statistics of Jeju Air, a total of 68,000 tickets were canceled from midnight of Dec. 29 to 1 p.m. of Dec. 30, of which domestic flights were canceled. Of these, 33,000 tickets were canceled for domestic flights and 34,000 tickets were canceled for international flights.
On Dec. 29, a Jeju Air passenger plane landed at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province, South Korea, and veered off the runway and hit the airport fence. Except for two people who were rescued, all the other 179 people on board were killed, which is the most serious air crash with casualties in South Korea.
