The Transport Department announced today (Dec. 28) the launch of "international driving permit self-service stations," enabling residents to apply for and collect permits on the same day.
Starting Jan. 13, these self-service stations will be available at the Hong Kong Licensing Office and Kowloon Licensing Office, operating Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Eligible applicants — holders of the HK Identity Card and a valid or recently expired (within three years) HK driving license — can use the online booking system to reserve a time slot through the "iAM Smart+" platform.
The self-service stations will provide instant photo-taking services. Applicants need to provide proof of address and complete payment via electronic methods. Once all documents are submitted, the permits can be ready for collection in as little as one hour, with confirmation sent via SMS.
Existing application methods, such as submitting forms via the "GovHK" portal, in person at licensing offices, or through drop boxes and mail, remain unchanged.
