Flu cases, emergency room visits, and hospital admissions have all seen an upward trend in Hong Kong this month. Prof. David Hui Shu-cheong, a respiratory medicine expert from CUHK, stated during a radio program yesterday (Dec. 24) that an influenza outbreak is expected between January and March next year, with a significant increase in flu cases anticipated as early as next month. He recommends timely vaccination.
In Japan, several prefectures have recently experienced flu outbreaks. Hui advised residents planning to travel to carry medicine, get vaccinated, and ideally receive their shots at least two weeks before departure. During their travels, he emphasized the importance of maintaining good hygiene.
Currently, COVID-19 infection rates remain stable. However, Hui recommends that elderly individuals, those with chronic illnesses, and people with compromised immune systems receive a booster shot if it has been over six months since their last vaccination or infection.
