The Transport Department has officially launched E-Auction, an online platform for bidding on Ordinary Vehicle Registration Marks (VRMs). This new system allows interested bidders to participate without attending physical auctions, enabling them to bid from anywhere using a computer or mobile device.
The inaugural online auction is set for February 2025, featuring around 50 VRMs in the initial phase. Further details will be announced by the end of next month.
Auction Schedule and Details
- Two online auctions will be held each month, each lasting five days, starting at noon on the first day and concluding at noon on the fifth day.
- The department plans to gradually increase the number of VRMs available for auction as it assesses operations to ensure the smooth functioning of the E-Auction platform.
Registered users can bid for their desired Ordinary VRMs during the designated auction periods and may set auto bids in advance. Successful bidders can complete all necessary procedures on the one-stop platform, including electronic payment and receiving documents to assign the VRMs to the vehicles listed in the Memorandum of Sale.
Additional Information
Non-registered users can visit the E-Auction website to learn about registration, auction procedures, schedules, pending VRMs, and real-time auction prices.
Please note that E-Auction is exclusively for Ordinary VRMs. Auctions for VRMs with "HK" or "XX" prefixes, special VRMs, and personalized VRMs will continue to be conducted through traditional physical auctions with bidding paddles.
The department will send detailed information about the E-Auction arrangements to all applicants who have submitted a deposit for Ordinary VRMs.
