Tropical depression in South China Sea expected to become typhoon within a day

According to the Central Meteorological Observatory, a tropical depression was generated in the South China Sea this morning (Dec. 22), which is likely to intensify into the 26th typhoon this year in the next 24 hours. Based on the Central Meteorological Observatory track forecast, the tropical depression is likely to affect the coastal areas of Guangdong from Dec. 24 to 25.

The Central Meteorological Observatory pointed out that this morning, the South China Sea tropical depression was generated, in the future it will move at a speed of about 20 kilometers per hour to the northwest direction, the intensity will be slightly strengthened, and may be strengthened in the next 24 hours to the 26th typhoon this year; and then it will turn to the west direction of the movement, the intensity of the change is not significant, and gradually approaching the coast of southeastern Vietnam. Due to the combined influence of cold air and tropical low pressure, the winds in the South China Sea are stronger. At about 2:00 p.m. today, the tropical depression was about 1,000 kilometers southeast of Sansha City, Hainan Province, and is expected to move northwestward at a speed of 20 to 25 kilometers per hour, with a slight increase in intensity.

Also according to the Vietnam weather department, under the combined influence of low pressure areas and cold air, central and southern Vietnam may experience heavy rainfall from Monday to Thursday, with localized rainfall ranging from 100 to 300 millimeters, and more than 500 millimeters is possible in some areas.
