On the morning of Dec. 22, the Shanghai Metro Line 11 was caused by line equipment and train damage due to the impact of external construction.
No one was injured in the accident.
Footage circulating online showed the train suffering a substantial level of damage, with shattered glass all over the floor.
Shanghai Metro said on social media that the crane had "intruded" into the track and damaged facilities on route 11 of the network.
It said repairs are expected to take a considerable amount of time because of the complicated situation at the scene, adding that commuters should take other modes of transportation.
According to Shanghai Metro, two cranes were lifting a steel frame just after 8 am, when one of them suddenly snapped and hit the moving train.
Shanghai Metro issued an apology, "Passengers affected by the failure of Line 11 can access the apology letter through the special page of Shanghai Metro's official website, and we apologize for the inconvenience caused to your travel!"
