Zheng Qinwen withdraws from 2025 United Cup, to play at Australian Open in January
According to the latest news from the WTA (Women's Tennis Association), Chinese tennis player Zheng Qinwen has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming 2025 United Cup.
The 2025 United Cup will be played from December 27, 2024, to January 5, 2025, in Sydney and Perth, Australia.
Zheng Qinwen posted a message announcing her withdrawal from the 2025 United Cup. She wrote on social media, "I am sorry to say that I will not be playing in the Union Cup next week. After the long 2024 season, I need a few extra weeks of rest, recovery and good training to get ready for the new season. I had a great time at the Fed Cup in January, so I'm going to miss it a lot. Finally, I'm looking forward to playing in the Australian Open soon, see you in Melbourne in a couple of weeks!"
According to the schedule, the 2025 Australian Open will be held at Melbourne Park in Australia from January 6 to 26 next year.
The WTA also officially announced that Zheng Qinwen has been named the Fan Favorite Singles player in the WTA 2024 Fan Awards for the 2024 season. This is the third consecutive year that Zheng has won the WTA's annual award, having won the Best Newcomer award in 2022 and the Fastest Improving Player in 2023.
