Paulo Pong Kin-yee, Chairman of the Board of Ocean Park Corporation stated today (Dec. 21) on a radio program that the pair of giant pandas, An An and Ke Ke, gifted to Hong Kong by the Central Government, have been very popular since they met the public earlier this month, with thousands of visitors coming to see them each day.
With the resumption of the "multiple-entry" Individual Visit Endorsements for Shenzhen residents traveling to Hong Kong, the number of mainland visitors to the Park has increased in recent weeks. Travelers from Southeast Asia and Europe and the United States are also starting to rise.
Coinciding with the Christmas season in December, local students have begun their holidays, and the Park expects higher visitor numbers this month. The park has recently intensified promotions for annual passes to Shenzhen travelers, hoping to make good use of the opportunity.
Pong mentioned that the largest growth in visitors this year has come from India, with nearly a fourfold increase recorded over the past year, which is encouraging. He hopes to discover more new sources of visitors in the future.
He also noted that the park has invested significant effort in creating a Christmas atmosphere, including setting up a 6-meter tall Christmas tree.
He stated that currently, 30% to 40% of Ocean Park's products are related to giant pandas, totaling about 400 items, which are very popular among the public. In the future, the Park will consider collaborating with different contractors to launch products such as watches, jewelry, clothing, and phone cases.
