Yesterday (Dec. 17), a video circulated online titled "Breaking News: Cat and Mouse Battle at Tsim Sha Tsui Station, With One Guy Winning 2 Horse Lengths—How Fast Can You Be for HK$1,000?" The video shows an MTR staff member running at full speed in the lobby of Tsim Sha Tsui station, chasing a man in a white coat, suspected of fare evasion.
According to the MTR regulations, passengers traveling without a valid ticket are treated as if they have not purchased a ticket. To strengthen the crackdown on such behaviors, the MTR raised the surcharge amount in June last year, increasing the surcharge for the heavy rail network from HK$500 to HK$1,000.
