1-minute News | Weekend escapes: Why Koreans are hooked on short trips to China

China's visa-free policy for South Koreans has sparked a weekend travel boom. Many young Koreans are taking off after work on Fridays, heading to China for short and affordable getaways. Social media is now buzzing with their travel stories, especially about the incredible food and shockingly low prices.

A popular blogger shared videos of her food adventures in China, claiming that the meals she had in just two days were better than anything she's ever eaten in Korea. "Korean food is a joke compared to this," she declared, saying even China's street food outshines Michelin-starred restaurants back home.

Other travelers were amazed by Chinese supermarkets, showcasing exotic produce like red bananas, pearl persimmons, green eggplants, and massive blueberries. One Korean visitor was stunned to find a large box of blueberries for just 49 RMB, far cheaper than the tiny boxes costing 20-30 RMB in Korea. Another traveler noted that vegetables in Korea cost six times as much, showing off her budget-friendly haul of bean sprouts, carrots, mushrooms, and walnuts for just 930 RMB.
