The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025, scheduled from March 28 to 30, will host the "Melrose Claymore" tournament. The tournament will see HK's men's and women's rugby sevens teams facing fierce competition against top Asian teams, testing their dominance in the region.
In the men's competition, the defending champion, the Hong Kong China rugby team, will go head-to-head with players from Japan and the mainland, while the women's team will face rivals Thailand and Kazakhstan.
The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, first held in 1976, has long supported the development of rugby across Asia. The "Melrose Claymore" tournament, introduced during the 2024 event, invites elite Asian teams to compete in HK.
The inaugural edition saw the men's team from HK and women's team from the mainland claim the titles, with the trophy donated by Scotland's historic Melrose Rugby, home to the world's oldest rugby sevens tournament founded in 1883.
During the last edition of the HK Sevens in April, held for the final time at the Hong Kong Stadium, HK's men's team triumphed in the "Melrose Claymore" tournament. They will now aim to defend their title at the newly built Kai Tak Sports Park in March 2025.
