A Japan Airlines flight from Melbourne International Airport in Australia to Narita International Airport on Dec. 1 was delayed for more than three hours because the two pilots exceeded the alcohol limit before departure.
According to Nippon Television Network Corporation, the two pilots were scheduled to fly from Melbourne International Airport in Australia to Narita International Airport in Japan on Dec. 1, but they tested positive for alcohol at the hotel where they were staying before departure. Although after a break and during the pre-boarding inspection, it was confirmed that no alcohol was detected and the flight was eventually allowed to take off, the flight was still delayed by 3 hours and 11 minutes.
The investigation found that the two pilots had consumed one glass of sparkling wine and three glasses of wine the day before departure, far exceeding the internal alcohol consumption limit. According to the report, Japan Airlines issued a "no-alcohol" order to its internal staff in April this year because of the captains' drinking problem, but the order was lifted in October.
