Former S. Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun attempts suicide in prison
Former South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun attempted suicide in prison following his arrest in connection with the controversial martial law incident, according to a report by CCTV News on Dec. 11.
Kim, who was detained earlier the same day, is the first individual to be formally arrested over the incident since it came to light.
According to Yonhap News, Kim had waived his right to a pre-arrest detention review after completing questioning by the special investigation headquarters on Dec. 9.
On Dec. 10, through his lawyer, Kim issued a public statement expressing deep remorse for causing significant unrest and inconvenience to the public. He pledged to take full responsibility for the incident, stating that the blame lies solely with him.
