Govt to subsidize transition of 3,000 old taxis to EVs with HK$45,000 per vehicle
The HKSAR government has announced a new initiative under its "green transformation roadmap of public buses and taxis," aiming to promote the adoption of electric taxis and expand the city's electric vehicles (EVs) charging network.
As part of the plan, the government will subsidize the replacement of 3,000 aging taxis with EVs, providing a subsidy of HK$45,000 for each vehicle.
The scheme targets the oldest 3,000 taxis, with their owners being invited to apply first. If some owners decline, the remaining quotas will be redistributed based on the age of other taxis.
The subsidy covers approximately 10% to 25% of the current market price of an electric taxi, with the total budget for the initiative estimated at about HK$135 million.
