A 19-year-old male student at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) has been arrested on suspicion of voyeurism after allegedly filming a female student using the men's bathroom in the university's Swire Hall dormitory. The suspect, a mainland student, has been released on bail pending further investigation.
The incident reportedly occurred on the afternoon of Dec. 5, when the 22-year-old female student went to visit her boyfriend at Swire Hall. Feeling unwell, she borrowed the men's restroom on the same floor. While inside, she noticed a mobile phone under the bathroom stall and immediately suspected she was being filmed.
The woman and her boyfriend confronted the suspect on the spot and discovered several photos and videos of women using the bathroom on his phone. The couple reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of the 19-year-old suspect.
Police investigations are ongoing, and the case is being handled by the first team of the criminal investigation division of the Western District Police. The suspect has been released on bail and is required to report to the police in early January.
In response to the incident, HKU's Swire Hall administration issued a statement confirming that a male resident was arrested for filming a female resident in the men's bathroom. The university has since terminated the suspect's dormitory residency.
