Some half-marathon runners reported running an extra 9 kilometers in the Kerry Hong Kong Streetathon 2024 held yesterday (Dec. 8).
The Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of RunOurCity Leung Pak-hang apologized in a radio program today (Dec. 9), estimating that about 20 to 30 half-marathon runners ran more than 9 kilometers, which is believed to be the result of some people running wrongly in front of them and some people following behind them.
On the issue of some runners running wrongly due to unclear instructions, Leung pointed out that there were clear signs at the turnaround point, and half-marathon runners should turn right, and he considered that there was no question of "ice-cream buckets" blocking the instructions. However, he admitted that the on-site staff should be more proactive in advising the oncoming runners directly, and that the training for the staff would be strengthened in the future.
