MTR carrying out installation of platform gates at last three stations on East Rail Line
Hong Kong's MTR is currently carrying out the installation of automatic platform gates at the last three stations on the East Rail Line, namely Mong Kok East, Lo Wu, and University stations.
Additional measures have been implemented at University and Lo Wu stations to remind passengers to be aware of the gap between the train and the platform, following the completion of the installation of related gates, which are now in service.
According to the MTR, due to the geographical layout of these three stations, certain parts of the platforms have relatively large curvatures. Therefore, as the company installed the automatic platform gates, additional measures were simultaneously implemented at 93 locations across the three stations to enhance passenger awareness of these gaps.
These measures include the installation of LED light strip steel plates along the platform edge. These LED light strips will illuminate when the train arrives and before the doors and gates open.
Additionally, caution gap reminder stickers have been placed inside and outside the gates, lines of sight and lines towards the carriages have been marked with yellow and black stripes and yellow adhesive strips have been widened at the platform edge to narrow the platform gap.
